Kevin Valente

Hi

I'm 47 years old and have lived in Shetland for 7 years. Prior to moving to this peaceful and tranquil place I lived in Orkney, which is also a beautiful place to live.

I was brought up in a small place call Sheffield (you might have heard of it) where the steel comes from, or at least it used to. Throughout my school life although I lived in the city, I spent many a weekend camping in the Peak District and Derbyshire. During the school holidays I'd spend time back-packing in the Lake District, or youth hosteling around Snowdonia.

I've always had an interest in playing many sports and even though I'm not getting any younger, I still enjoy a game of football or squash. Recently I've started to referee football matches, which I enjoy although it does put me in the firing line for some critisim, as you can imagine.

After leaving school I trained and worked as a nurse but now I'm a Social Worker, working with children, which can be very rewarding.

I feel I'm very lucky having a job I enjoy and living in a wonderful place like Shetland.
