Preparation so Far

26th July 09

Well the training didn't go to plan, which isn't a surprise. Going back to last October I had it all planned out, regular bike rides, spinning twice a week, and in the gym two or three times a week. On top of that, I have my usual sporting events. What actually happened was I tore my calf muscle in December 08, and pulled a muscle in my lower back in March 09, so my training's been limited.

As for Malcolm, he was cycling daily and participating in his daily sporting activities. Things were going well for him, until Saturday 25th July 09. He was playing football and fell awkwardly (he said he was pushed but no foul was given), damaging his shoulder. Luckerly he didn't do too much damage.

The planning with regard to the practical arrangements was more successful. All the accommodation was pre-booked, with Youth Hostels being used all the way from Lands End to John O’Groats, except for one overnight stay in Lesmahagow, where we booked in at the Dykecroft Farm.

All items we were taking with us were obtained (thanks to Ebay) and we were ready for the trip South on Wednesday 29th July.
