The Journey so Far

29th July 09

After being at work for the day my wife and I met Malcolm at the Northlink Ferry terminal in Lerwick. Malcolm's family were there to wish us good luck, and the three of us set off on our epic journey. After saying our farewells, the three of us boarded the ferry heading to Aberdeen via Orkney. Did I mention I was able to talk my wife into driving Malcolm and I down to Exeter, with the bikes and the small amount of luggage we were taking.

There was a lot of people booked on the ferry tonight, and quite a number from Whalsay. There was a little more movement on the ferry that I thought there would be, but overall the weather wasn't too bad.

This photo was taken just as we were leaving Lerwick.

We were all woken up on the ferry at 6am, by the usual sound of the tannoy anouncing that we would be arriving in Aberdeen at 7am, and that the self service restuarant was now open. After a welcome shower, and mug of coffee, we set off on our 7 hour drive to Barnsley. The weather was generally good, and the roads were clear.

We arrived at my mother's home in Barnsley around 2pm, and after visiting a couple of bike shops, we enjoyed a good dinner in the local restuarant. It's going to be an early start again tomorrow so we won't be too late in bed.
